What is the purpose of different eye colors?

I am not questioning the theory of evolution or anything like that, I just want to see your opinion and views of how eye colors evolved, and also, how do you think they'll evolve in the future.

I have heard that folks with light blue or green eyes are more photosensitive than those with hazel or brown eyes. I imagine that back in the day, that factored greatly into which trait was more preferable. Now, we have to factor in the fact that we've created Ray Bans and colored contact lenses, so Eye Color carrying on as a trait in your bloodline is probably just a matter of what society determines is more beautiful, i.e., preferable.

What are some unique and interesting eye colors?

I dont just mean like, "blue" or "blue-green"
Im looking for interesting eye colors that aren't completely alienated, but different and suprising.

There is a very unusual color of hazel eyes - a yellow/ gold color- I have only seen 4 people with this color of eyes. They are very striking. Once you see them you will continue to look for them.
